I began this journey of me not training for a marathon on Day Two because I did not get the idea
to keep track of my progress until today. Yesterday, my mind was still hazy from beginning Day One.
Two days ago, I got the bright idea to start
running again. Now, I have not run in over twenty years. I want to blame it on
having children, managing three self-owned businesses and not having enough
time but let’s face it and call it what it is, just sheer laziness. I have become extremely out of shape and
decided the fastest way for me to get back in shape would be to start running.
As a kid and teen, I ran everywhere. It first started with
me growing up in the Bronx and being afraid of rats. Yes I said rats. So to
escape any encounters, I would sprint everywhere including up five flights of
stairs on a daily basis. I then began
running races against every kid my age in my neighborhood. I quickly outraced
the girls and soon could beat all but one little boy in the neighborhood who I
am convinced to this day was related to a cheetah. I ran track in junior high and high school but never really stayed with the teams but I kept running on my own just the same until...The Laziness.
In any event, I ran for the first 20 years of my life and
then stopped. Who does that?
So the day before yesterday, I went out and purchased everything a true runner should have and yesterday I began what I will call "NOT Training For A Marathon. I say this because there are many blogs about people training for a marathon and I don’t care to ever run one. Nope. Not ever. I just want to be able to run 2 miles straight without going into cardiac arrest. So here I go. You are free to join me and post your progress. You know the old saying "Misery likes company?" So let's get our miserable butts on a local track and train for no marathon at all.
