First of all, did I say RUN two miles without stopping? I
may need to get my head examined. What I meant was WALK really fast for two
miles without stopping. Did I forget that I’m thirty-some-odd years old and haven’t
run in 20 years?
Whew! Today was hard. I think it was a combination of the
sun, humidity and the lack of sleep but GOOD LAWD I had to push to get those
2.11 miles in and I only ran a portion of the first 4 laps. I walked those last
two laps like my name was “Little Ol’ Lady.” Yes I did. Well actually, I
started to and then we’ll get to what happened in a minute.
I got up at my normal time (6:00 am) and I felt a little
tired but got up anyway. Normally, I can rest a little more if I need to but now
I have to get to the track early as
I’m now driving my eldest son to school because his car needs repair. Damn that
car! Damn it to hell! I then go
downstairs and let out Sara, my beautiful boxer puppy, let her do her business
and then head off to the track.
Everything started out well until I got to about 1.30 miles
(I know that because of my handy dandy Nike + app) and then the tiredness
kicked in (or maybe the devil). I blame both.
The little Tired Devil voice told me to finish off that last lap and go home
and I was fine with doing just that! I started making excuses to myself to
co-sign what the Tired Devil voice was telling me. I told myself I did not have
enough sleep last night. I knew that was bull because I run/walked on 3 hours
sleep before. I blamed it on the fact that I knew I didn’t have enough calories
the day before (I don’t know where that came from) and everything else I could
think of. Then just as I was preparing myself to be Queenie Quitter, a song
appeared in the shuffle and I knew I had to keep pressing on. My friend R.S. is
going to get a BIG kick out of this one.
A big shout-out goes to Johnny Gill! Of all the 1,347 songs
in my Iphone, Johnny’s “Rub You The Right Way” pops up out of nowhere. I’m not
kidding. I could not have planed it better if I tried. I was so tired all I
could do was walk, let alone pick the next song on my Iphone. That song is not
even on my Nike + Power Song list. I don’t know how or why it came up at that
exact moment but I was glad it did. I thought about Johnny dancing up and down
on those cubes in the video with all that energy and him not falling and I put
some pep in my step. Now I didn’t start running. Let’s not get crazy, but I
picked up my pace and finished the 2 miles. I don’t even remember what song
came on next. I was still high off of “Rub You The Right Way!”
Wait, did I tell you all I added the 8th lap
already? Whoops. Sorry. I added it I think the last time I ran/walked. I figured that since the way I was running/walking
around the track I was running/walking two miles anyway so now I just stay in
the same lane for all eight laps.
So all and all, today was a good day. Not the best but at
least I did 2.11 miles. My time was so-so. I think tomorrow I will try run/walking
on the treadmill. I haven’t walked/run on it since I started this not training
for a marathon but I may need to because the sun was whipping my tail today.
The vitamin D is good, but it drained all my other nutrients and energy. Besides, you know
I had to get the most fancy treadmill they make right? I am Gadget Girl. I can't do regular. It’s time to put that baby to use. At least until this heat wave passes. It's either that or I'll pass out on that track from heat exhaustion. Not even Johnny Gill's song will save me from that.
Well, until tomorrow my friends…
