Now I remember why I never stuck with walking/running on a
treadmill for too long. That has to be the most boring way to walk /run in the
history of walking/running. It was like watching grass grow. I was only able to do one mile before my ADHD
kicked and almost drove me mad. Not to mention my handy dandy Nike + app didn’t
work down in the basement because 1- there was no GPS signal and 2- I’m not
sure it can accurately calculate running on the treadmill. It may be able to
but I didn’t care to investigate further. I’m not running/walking on that
treadmill again unless absolutely necessary!
So I get up at normal time and of course go play with my new
puppy, Sara. She’s the best dog in the whole wide world. Yes, the whole, wide
world. I know this blog is suppose to be
about my not training for a marathon but she plays a key part in it so I will
mention her from time to time. She’s
doing really well with the housebreaking. She knows to go on the wee-wee pads. I
will say 90% of the time she does. Every now in then she’ll tinkle on the floor
if she can’t find one in time but for the most part, she’s doing really well. I
can’t wait until she gets her rabies shots so I can take her outside.
Like I said, before wandering off about Sara, I go
downstairs to my fancy workout room and get on my overly compensating treadmill
and walk the first lap. I then decide to run the second lap. My treadmill is
designed to show you actual “laps” on the display board. As I walked/ran around
that fake “track” I was SO bored. All I had to look at were my stats and those
stupid dots that indicated where I was on the “lap.” BORRR-RING!
I can’t even tell you what my walk/run ratio was because my
ADHD starting me to looking around the workout room and thinking how I could
redesign it and I then I started thinking about other things that had nothing to
do with my walk/run. What the kids were
doing, reminding myself to do a load of laundry, what sundress I was wearing today, etc. Anything but not training for a marathon was
going through my head. After one mile, I got off the treadmill and decided
since I was down there, I had might as well get on the stationary bike for a
little while since my attention span wouldn’t allow me to finish the two miles on the
treadmill. That too was boring. I rode the bike for fifteen minutes and got off of
it.
Don’t get me wrong, I had music playing but it was just not
the same as being on that track. When I’m on the track, all I think about is
walking/running and the scenery. Nothing else even matters other than the other joggers/walkers, lady on a bicycle (who had no business there), and an occasional dog chasing me here and there. Other than that, it’s all about my walk/run. My
home life is left at home and I can focus on walking/running.
I think from now on if I can’t get to the track I will do
one of those workout videos I have downstairs to get my exercise in. A Zumba ,
yoga, belly dancing video or something like that. You don’t even want to know how
many workout videos I have. Let's just say I have more than enough to keep my mind occupied on those OFF-TRACK days because trying to walk/run on a treadmill will not work for
me. My brain can’t handle
running/walking whilst staying in the same exact place and never going anywhere
for too long. I may come up out of that basement a mental patient.
All in all I did get a good workout this morning between the
treadmill and the bike. I was soaked with sweat and I felt like I did do
something. It wasn’t the same feeling as when I come from that track but it’ll
have to do for today.
Until tomorrow…
Ms. P.
