Today I was back on the track. Damn that basement! Damn that
treadmill and damn that stationary bike! The world wasn’t created for us to
run/walk in a basement or at a gym. Get out and explore! J
So decided to go to bed early last night so I would be
energized and ready to go this morning. When I woke up and turned on the news
at 5:30 am, the weatherman had the nerve to say that there was a heat index
warning. I immediately replied to him (as if he could hear me) with “Yeah, well
too bad.” I quickly got myself to the
track and got my run/walk on. I figured if I got there early enough, I’d be
fine.
Today was good. I ran/walked 2.4 miles and I finished about
one minute earlier than the last time I was on the track. I don’t know if it
was the sleep I got last night or what but I’m happy my time is better. I also
prayed whilst running that I wouldn’t pass out from heat exhaustion during my
run the way comedian Martin Lawrence did that one time.
It turns out that the humidity and heat hadn’t hit us yet so I was fine.
Daisy wasn’t there today. Not that she needs to be there
every day. She is 136 years old you
know. She can afford to take a few days off here and there and she is in
wonderful shape so she’s good with days off. Me? That’s another story. I need to have my butt
on that track every day and two times on Saturday. Ok, she’s not 136 years old
but still.
There was a group of ladies there today who have been at the
track the last couple of times I’ve been there. I call them “The Friends.”
There are three of them and of course they must all walk together so everyone
else must run/walk around them. It’s funny to see because the avid joggers run
a particular lane and then must go all the way around them and then back to the
lane he/she was in. I, on the other hand, just look to see what lanes “The
Friends” are taking up and walk whatever lane is left. I don’t have time (or energy) to walk/run
around those women in the middle of my run/walk. It is kind of cool to see them
walk together. I almost wished I had
someone to walk/run with. Almost. I
thought about it and then decided I wouldn’t want to walk/run with a bunch of
my friends. I don’t want to socialize, answer questions or listen to gossip
whilst on my walk/run. I want to focus. I’ve given up on walk/running with
BabyGenius. Besides, when he starts school in September, I’d be on my own
anyway. I can’t wait until Sara (my 3 month old boxer) is old enough to go on
walk/runs with me. I won’t take her to the track because that’s against the
rules. But I will take her on walk/runs throughout our neighborhood sometimes.
Well, that’s all for today. I hope I inspired someone to
start walking/running. There’s no excuse. I use to complain about the time issue
but if I could fit it in, anybody can. Trust me. I’m the hardest working woman
outside of show business. Enjoy your day!
Until tomorrow…
Ms. P.
