Day 35

Alright, I’m back on my “A” game! Today was a great day at the track. I did another 5K! I may have to change my goal to 4 miles because 2 miles is a piece of cake now. I’m not running the entire 2 miles yet. That may take another 6 months but I’m definitely on my way.

Last night, I went to bed at a decent hour and got myself some good sleep. I then got up at exactly 6 am feeling fully rejuvenated. I let the puppies out and had a piece of fruit and a small glass of water.  I was a little worried because even though I felt totally fine, I remembered how I felt on the track yesterday and didn’t want a repeat of it. I assured myself that I would be fine and then headed to the track.

There was no one there and I was fine with that. The local weatherman had said it would be “hot and humid and not a good day to be outside.”  I didn’t want anybody else out there causing more heat on the track and breathing up precious air. I was glad the heat warning deterred the usual track patrons but I didn’t let it stop me because I had NO desire to run on that treadmill this morning. I wanted to be on the track.

I immediately started jogging upon entering the track. I figured the walk from the entrance of the field to the actual track was enough warm up for me. That short walk and the hot and humid weather was definitely warm up enough. I ran almost the entire first lap but the heat started getting to me so I decided to slow down to a brisk walk. I did not want to overheat and not be able to complete at least 2 miles today. I pretty much did the same walk/run ratio throughout the rest of the 5k walk/run. I walked about 60% and ran the other 40%. I would love to say that I did 50/50 but those last few laps around were tough. Not to mention I had the devil breathing on my neck.

My time wasn’t the best that I had ever done but I did a total of 3.31 miles and I was only 30 seconds slower than the last time I had done the 5k. Not bad considering yesterday I was darn near an invalid and today it was hot and humid. Hopefully there will be a breeze tomorrow so I can work on getting my 5k done in less time. I do notice that my walk/run times on the first mile is better when it’s not as warm.

Until tomorrow…

Ms. P.
