And another one down, another 5k (3.38 miles to be exact)
bites the dust. I also shaved 23 seconds off of my time from yesterday. How do
I know all that? My handy dandy Nike+ app! That’s how (they really should
sponsor this blog).
I can’t tell you all how good it feels to be able to
run/walk a little further or faster each day. You really would have to
experience it for yourself. No matter what exercise method you choose, to see
yourself get better at it or be able to do more of it each day lets you know
just how powerful the human mind and body can be when you give it your all.
I’m glad I was able to beat yesterday’s time because I came
awfully close to that not happening. I had a little incident with my sunglasses
right into my second lap around the track, which is where I have the best
speed. On the second lap, I’m warmed up and not tired at all. Now I have no
idea why I brought my sunglasses this morning anyway because the sun was
nowhere to be found when I first got to the track. So since I always have to be Overly-Prepared
Penelope, I brought both the umbrella and
the sunglasses. I had the sunglasses on my head (classic diva style) like I
always did when the sun wasn’t so bright and proceeded as normal. That way I
could just slide them down if the brightness of the sun started bothering me.
Like I said, just as I started my second lap and went into a
sprint run, the darn thing fell off of my head and broke into three pieces. I
was so annoyed. Why would they fall off today? You know why? Because today I
had on a headband and the headband did not allow the sunglasses to sit closely
on the sides of my head as they normally would so they fell off. Great. I had
to turn around whilst running, go back, stop running, pick up the sunglasses,
resume running and as I ran past a garbage can, chuck the broken glasses into
it. Thank goodness my aim was on point because I would have lost more time
going back over to the garbage and picking them up had I missed. All of this would
have never happened had I not had that silly headband on. I never wanted the
headband in the first place but of course I want to keep the sweat from running
into my eyes and burning me blind while I walk/ran so I got the headband and
end up breaking my sunglasses. Who knew I couldn’t have both?
Aside from the sunglasses incident, today’s run was pretty
uneventful after that. There were a couple of people on the track but not like
a normal Saturday morning. I think the humidity kept folks away. The less
people the better for me. I don’t have to say “good morning” whilst running. I
don’t have to run around anyone if they are in the same lane as I am or have
them run around me. Call me selfish but I like having the ENTIRE track to
myself. If I were a billionaire, I’d have a house built with my own track field
on it. That way I could make the rules. There wouldn’t be any women on
bicycles, random dogs sniffing at my butt…
Anyway, before I start going on forever about what I’d do if
I were a billionaire I’m going to end this post.
Until tomorrow…
Ms. P.
