Great morning folks! I’m not sure if I did a 5k but I
definitely did at least 2 and half miles. I didn’t go to the track because like
I said before school is back in and I don’t think I want to be bothered with a
bunch of middle schoolers and the parking is atrocious when school is in
session. I also did not use my handy dandy Nike + app because I didn’t want to
pressure myself on my time since I was going to do 2 miles with the puppies.
I got up at 7am and completed my morning routine with the
puppies and children and was done by 8:00. I decided to avoid my office and
phone totally until I did my morning walk/run.
I did not want any excuse not to get it done today. I have been slacking
and I no longer wanted that to continue.
I got Jane (my six month old boxer) and we headed out for my
first mile. Everything went well at first. I was able to walk briskly with her
and even jog a little without her going into a sprint. She jogged beside me
like the good dog she can be when she wants to. It was cloudy out and there was
a nice breeze so I was feeling good. Everything
was great until…
Like I said it was going so well until we were going into
the last go around the neighborhood. Halfway down the block, the wind picked up
and it spooked Jane. She started pulling and refused to walk any further. I
tried talking to her and letting her know it was okay but she wasn’t trying to
hear it. She then got on the ground and started rolling around like she didn’t
have any sense. I pulled the leash to try to get her to stand up but she was
dead weight. She looked up at me with that silly grin she does and continued to
roll. I stood there looking at her. There was no way I was picking her up. She
has to be about 35 pounds of pure muscle now. How would I look (as if I could)
carrying a big ass white boxer down the block? She may still be considered a
puppy but she is BIG.
After a few seconds of me looking at her like she was crazy,
she finally got up. I decided to take her back home and continue my morning
walk with Sara. Jane was all too eager to go back home. We jogged the half of
block back to the house. I then took Jane in the house, got Sara and did a full
mile with her. The wind did not bother Sara at all. She was happy to run/walk
beside me. Even though Jane is a full month older than Sara, Sara is definitely
more mature and is eager to please. She walked beside me when I walked. She jogged
when I jogged. She tried sprinting but I just yanked the leash a little and she
settled down. She also tried chasing some leaves as we ran every now and then but
again a little jerk of the leash got her back on track.
After doing the mile with Sara, I came back inside and
ran/walked a mile on the treadmill. I would have done 3 miles in total had Jane
not acted like a nutcase due because of the wind.
All in all, I had a great workout. I worked up a nice sweat
outside and inside. I actually like run/walking around the neighborhood more
than on the track. At least I’m not burning any gasoline getting my workout on.
Do you know how much a gallon of gas is? Geesh! Now if I could just get Mother
Nature to hold off on the high winds when I’m walking Jane, life would be a
breeze.
Until tomorrow…
